CLIMATE CHANGE!

Climate change a term widely used but isn’t taken with the amount of seriousness that it should be. In 2015 197 countries came forward and signed a treaty know as the Paris Agreement to limit the global warming below 2 degree celsius failing which will have catastrophic effects on the environment. According to the Paris Agreement each country could set their own goals and strive to achieve it to limit global warming below 2 degree celsius. But after 5 years looks like the treaty was just a waste of time because in many countries almost negligible to zero amount of action has been taken to limit global warming and even if taken then there are some actions taken to weaken the fight against it. So here at truly global let us find out what are the effects of climate change and what can you do to stop climate change.

Impacts:

  • Once the average global temperature crosses 1.5 degree celsius the summer are going to be extremely hot and the winters are going to be extremely cold and this will cause more droughts and heat waves which is going to hit the agriculture sector very badly.

  • Hurricanes will become more stronger and intense which puts human livelihood and the disaster management at serious alert because we may get to see natural disasters more and hence more funds need to be put into disaster management and people’s living near coastal areas will seriously get affected.

  • The arctic ice will melt off from which the sea level will start rising by 1-8 feet by 2100 and floods will occur more often.

Solutions:

You as an individual can contribute to lower the emission of carbon:

  • By eating vegetarian food because foods like beef and lamb emit a 27 to almost 40 times more carbon than vegetarian food like lentils.

  • By planting trees.

  • By using electrical vehicles as the electric vehicles emit far less green house gases and are pollutants compared to a petrol or diesel car.

  • By protesting this is the main thing because we can try and minimise the emission of green house gases how much ever we want but when it comes to the government they can destroy a forest in minutes to set up factories hence it is important to stop the government from destroying forests to setup factories.

As we are heading into the new year of 2021 let us make a resolution to save the environment and pressurise the government to stop destroying it because as of March 2020 the global land and ocean surface temperature was 1.16 degree celsius which is the second highest in the 141 year record.
